Last Nomination for Californian of the Year: Mutton Buster

Last Nomination for Californian of the Year: Mutton Buster

Today we are proud to announce our last of five nominations for our 2017 “Californian of the Year” award. This award will go to the person who most exemplifies the drive and determination to change the character of Colorado into that of California.

Colorado character means craving the freedom to make one’s own decisions. By working to turn Colorado into East California, our nominees promote the Californian value of demanding to make decisions for other people.

Our fifth and final nominee is animal rights activist, buster of mutton-busting, and snazzy millennial-beard aficionado Aidan Cook.

Aidan is a symbolic nomination. He is only one of the 1,200 Colorado-Californians who signed a petition demanding the Western Stock Show end its reign of cruelty known as Mutton Busting. What is Mutton Busting, you ask? It’s the time-honored sport of the mile-high gentry where five-year-olds get to play cowboy. Instead of riding a dangerous bucking bronco, the little guy or gal hops on a sheep and tries to hang on as long as they can.

It really is the cutest damn thing you’ve ever seen. More importantly, every kid who does it thinks it’s the most fun thing ever. Just ask the adults who did it as a kid. They routinely say it was magical.

In our many, many years of researching the safety risks of the mutton busting issue, we have yet to find a case where the sheep was squished to death by a pudgy tike. We did however find voluminous cases of the fun of childhood getting squished out of existence by buzz-killing Colorado-Californians.

See Aidan in his “The entire Western Stock Show is a very violent event,” best here:http://denver.cbslocal.com/2017/12/20/colorado-petitioners-want-to-end-mutton-bustin/

Please join me in congratulating our final nominee for the 2017 Californian of the year, Aidan Cook.

The winner will be announced December 27th. We’ll see you at the rodeo!
