What happened to good liberals?

What happened to good liberals?

I keep asking myself, what happened to the good liberals?

And yes, there were good liberals. They seemed to be all around when I was growing up. You know, the ones who would say things like, “The ends don’t justify the means.”

Think of the ACLU fighting for the First Amendment rights of ugly neo-Nazis in Skokie, Illinois. Left-leaning lawyers fought for the free speech rights of hideous people who despised them, because the ends don’t justify the means. That’s pretty damn heroic work.

Contrast that with today’s Progressives who use speech codes and indoctrination to coerce expression to promote identity politics.

There’s no better example than the “trans” movement. I truly support a person’s right to live anyway they want without discrimination, including if they think they’re the other sex. But one’s gender dysphoria does not trump another person’s right of free speech.  In one of my latest columns for the Denver Post I suggest the trans movement is more about coerced speech than anything else. Hope you’ll take a look.

For your further reading pleasure, Rob Natelson explains why the Feds have a constitutional duty to stop the caravan at the border and Brit Naas suggests “Uber for energy,” letting people share their electricity via “micro-grids.”

Did you know that today is “Giving Tuesday,” which stands in stark contrast to the Left’s “Taking Other People’s Stuff Wednesday through Monday.” I know we in Colorado pimp Colorado Gives day on December 4th (and let me apologize in advance for the emails coming asking for your help meeting our $80,000 Colorado Gives Day goal), but if you wanted to warm-up your charitable muscles on today’s “Giving Tuesday,” we can help.

Remember that every dollar you invest in Independence makes the holiday season a little less enjoyable for a Progressive. And isn’t that what the season is really about. Make Independence your Giving Tuesday choice.
