Pueblo Charter School Wins National Accolades

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that Pueblo’s Cesar Chavez Academy will be featured as one of two examples of charter school excellence in a soon-to-be-aired documentary video.

Founded in 2000, Cesar Chavez Academy has won the James Irwin Award for Excellence three years running and is the 2006 recipient of the El Pomar Award for Excellence in Education. The Academy serves a mostly Hispanic, high-poverty student population of more than 1,000, with many more on a waiting list to gain admission.

The U.S. Department of Education video is scheduled to air on Rocky Mountain PBS in Denver (Channel 6) on Monday, September 17, at 4 AM. Alternatively, the show will also be available for viewing by Internet webcast on the Department’s site. To learn more, you can go here for a local Pueblo TV news clip.
