The Independence Institute is proud to announce its second of five nominations for 2018’s Californian of the Year. This coveted recognition goes to the Coloradan who best exemplifies the effort to change our once liberty-loving Colorado into the command-and-control state of California.
We believe in the Colorado Culture where we crave the freedom to make our own decisions. Those who vie for Californian of the Year believe in the Californian Culture of demanding to make decisions for others.
Our second nomination for Californian of the year is Boulder City Council member Jill Adler Grano, who has brought Boulder’s unique brand of smug intolerance and hate to a new, higher level by turning thousands of law-abiding Boulder gun owners into criminals with her so-called assault weapon ban.
Treating gun owners in the same way old southern rednecks treated gays and lesbians, Boulder’s new gun ordinance not only prevents the purchase of guns that are not to Grano’s cosmetic liking, it forces current gun owners to self-identify to police, present themselves for investigation and their weapons for inspection, and pay fees to secure permission slips to keep the semi-automatic weapons they already legally own.
Like many old laws meant to forcibly “out” gays and lesbians and keep them from freely associating, her bigoted ordinance “outs” gun owners in a community that is hostile to the gun-owning lifestyle. Not to mention, target shooting at the range with potentially banned guns could now bring police. Gun owners will be hesitant to associate in public. Stonewall eat your heart out.
Congratulations to Jill Adler Grano and the Boulder City Council for bringing intolerance, hatred, and alienation to an already elitist town, which incidentally, has no gun violence problem. Thanks Jill for making Boulder the welcoming jewel of a city it is.
We will announce our 2108 Californian of the news on January 2. Stay tuned, and welcome to the New California!
Think Freedom,
