Liberty Common Charter School: Excellence in Education

In celebration of National School Choice Week, we are pleased to release our latest school profile. In Liberty Common Charter School: Excellence in Education, Senior Fellow in Education Policy Ross Izard shares the success of a Ft. Collins parent-led public charter school that meets the standard of excellence. Liberty Common K-8 students follow the content-rich Core Knowledge Sequence. The high school is a classically oriented, liberal-arts, college-preparatory institution accentuating math, science, and engineering. An important aspect of Liberty Common’s strive for excellence is its character education program.

The school has a history of dedicated parents, staff, and students. The magazine style publication, with numerous photographs, allows the reader to join Ross in a school tour and see how Liberty Common Charter School has provided its students with in-person learning—despite the pandemic.

Also, watch Jon Caldara’s  interview of Liberty Common headmaster Bob Schaffer on our PBS television show Devil’s Advocate.

Many parents are researching schools for next year, so January is the perfect month to view our School Choice for Kids website and share with others its numerous resources. Please check out our new supplemental enrichment activities.

Colorado passed its charter school law in 1993. You can read our 2013 publication about the history of the Colorado charter law in On the Road of Innovation: Colorado’s Charter School Law Turns 20.

Colorado policymakers have allowed parents and other community members to create public schools that meet the needs of different types of learners. Please also enjoy our other publications about charter schools:
