In some states, parents have the opportunity to receive financial assistance to send their children to a private school through school vouchers (often called scholarships) and/or corporate and individual tax credits for donations to scholarship-granting organizations. A newer form of school choice are education savings accounts, which allow parents to choose from a variety of educational options.

Douglas County, Colorado

In 2011, the Douglas County School District established the school board-initiated Pilot Choice Scholarship Program. This program was challenged in court and is currently not operating, pending a decision from the Colorado Supreme Court.
