Independence Institute is hiring; freedom-focused media assistant wanted

The Independence Institute is seeking a digital media assistant to join the team of creative and passionate public policy professionals at its Denver, Colorado headquarters. Independence Institute is a dynamic free market think tank with a mission to empower individuals and to educate citizens, legislators and opinion makers about public policies that enhance personal and economic freedom. One of the tools towards this mission is a significant media arm that includes a broadcast television program, video-cast production, podcasting, and extensive social media outreach including a You Tube channel, several websites, and an online journalism project.

The media assistant will work under the supervision of the media manager in all aspects of media creation and distribution and will be expected to assist in studio productions by scheduling and helping prep guests and adjust sound and lighting as directed, as well as simple post-production (e.g. uploading and labeling footage). They will also be required for on location recordings such as debates, press conferences, stock media assignments, etc. The media assistant will also be tasked with photo editing (resizing, cropping, adding text) for use on the website, in YouTube thumbnails, and on social media, as well as updating and adding content on websites, You Tube and other content distribution channels. The media assistant will also be part of a core team that updates the Institute’s news aggregator, CompleteColorado.com, on a regular schedule, to include occasional weekend obligations in the mornings, as well as other duties as directed.

This position requires some technical competence and at least mid-level writing and creative skills. While formal video production/editing education or experience is a plus, it’s not as important as an openness to be trained and take ownership in your work, and the ability to grasp new concepts and ideas quickly.

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package, with a work location at the Institute’s headquarters building in uptown Denver.

Interested candidates should send a resume and any creative samples to Tyler@i2i.org.  As part of a cover letter, please include a brief (no more than 200 words) essay on what the idea of “liberty” means to you.
