“It’s easier to seek forgiveness than ask for permission.”
 – Grace Murray Hopper
“There is no limit to what a man can do so long as he does not care a straw who gets the credit for it.”

I pole vaulted for three years, until I was kicked off the team because I didn’t want to run sprints during the meets.

Connan Houser is a research associate at the Independence Institute’s Education Policy Center. He is the primary blogger for our Ed is Watching blog and often writes opinion editorials. As the result of his own frustrations with his K-12 experience, Connan strongly advocates for the expansion of individualized educational programs that better engage students in learning and programs that provide students with real-world experience. He came to the Independence Institute through our Future Leaders Program.

Originally from Aptos California, Connan spent two years attending San Diego State University. He is currently a student at Northeastern University, where he studies economics and mathematics.

He grew up next to the Monterey Bay and enjoys fishing and freediving. In the summer you can find him off the coast from La Jolla to Rosarito chasing yellowtail, and in the winter you can find him in Las Padres National Forest hunting. If not outdoors, he is likely immersed in a book or fiddling with a guitar.
