Matt Knoedler is a Senior Policy Fellow at Independence Institute. He is an “Optimistic Skeptic” in the spirit of F.A. Hayek- betting long on freedom and short on government, with an eye for spotting and steering policy trends before they hit the mainstream. As a Senior Policy Fellow he directs I2I’s public policy initiatives. Prior to joining I2I, Matt spent 25 years as a public policy advisor to philanthropists, elected officials, local governments, Fortune 500 companies and startups in every major industry sector. Plastic bags, tobacco, fracking, yoga… if a government tried to tax it, ban it, or regulate it during the 2010’s… Matt successfully defended it.
Matt also spent two years in a state institution (the Colorado General Assembly, representing Lakewood and Littleton from 2005-2007), where he tried to deregulate taxi service and de-tax internet phone service— and often notes that while his bills narrowly lost the battle, free market solutions like Uber and Zoom won the war.
